Frequent Questions Patients May Have At Their Six-Week Visit:

Clicking:

Why does my new joint make noise?

Clicking and crunching are common noises heard from new joints. Usually there is no pain involved.

Numbness:

Why do I have numbness to the side of my knee?

All knee surgeries involving an incision to the front of the knee nick or cut the nerve that supplies sensation to the outer side of the knee. With time most patients regain this sensation or the loss of sensation becomes less noticeable.

Leg Length Difference:

Why does my leg feel long?

Prior to surgery, your leg often is shorter due to bone loss and the tightening of muscles around your hip. Afterwards, your leg length is restored which often will make your leg feel longer than normal. You may also have a tight abductor muscle that will gradually relax and make your legs feel even. Usually by a year out your legs will feel equal.
